The Lahore High Court has summoned the Attorney General of Pakistan on requests for withdrawal of passport and name of Maryam Nawaz, Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-N, from the Controlling Authority (ECL).
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi of the Lahore High Court heard the petition of Maryam Nawaz.
Mirza Nawaz presented Amjad Pervez and Prime Minister Nazir Tarad Advocate while Special Prosecutor Syed Faisal Raza Bukhari appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Additional Attorney General Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan also appeared in the court on the occasion of the hearing.
During the hearing, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi remarked that we want the Attorney General to assist us in the issue of Maryam Nawaz’s passport return.
On this, Additional Attorney General Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan said that the government’s position has come. The chief of the bench remarked that we want the Attorney General of Pakistan to assist the court. If he cannot come by himself, we will order and call him.
The Additional Attorney General said that the Punjab government has rejected Nawaz Sharif’s request for extension for eight weeks, after which the request will become ineffective.
Later, the court adjourned the proceedings for a week on the plea of Maryam Nawaz.
