A Pakistani delegation arrives in Paris, France’s capital, to attend the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting.
The FATF meeting will continue in Paris until February 21, with an important decision on Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Hamad Azhar has arrived in Paris to represent Pakistan. The meeting will consider the steps taken by Pakistan towards the FATF.
The FATF will hold its regular meeting tomorrow, while the FATF president will hold a press conference on Friday.
It is pertinent to note that in January 2020, the FATF technical issues meeting was held in China, where members of the States praised Pakistan’s efforts.
Indian media reports related to the meeting said that Pakistan’s name was likely to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list at the February meeting.
According to the Indian media report, with the help of China’s lobbying and private consultants, 75% of the chances are that Pakistan’s name will be removed from the FATF’s gray list.
According to the report, at a meeting in Beijing, China told a group of 39 countries that Pakistan was doing effective anti-terrorist activities, Pakistan needed 12 out of 39 votes to exit the gray list and come to the white list.
It should be noted that at the FATF meeting held on October 18, 2019, all attempts of India to blacklist Pakistan had failed and the FATF had decided to keep Pakistan on the gray list for another four months.
