Islamabad: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised Pakistani actions for Afghan refugees.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, met with refugees from Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Yemen in Islamabad.
On the occasion, the UN Secretary-General said that Pakistan provided asylum to 45 million refugees affected by the Afghan war, made good arrangements to host them, and thanked Pakistan for hosting Afghan refugees.
He said that there are currently 27 million Afghan refugees living in Pakistan, visiting Pakistan to appreciate this widespread heartbreak.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Afghan refugees also praised Pakistan’s arrangements for the refugees and said that Pakistan is a great nation that hosted us.
It is important to note that the Secretary General will also address the World Afghan Refugees Conference at the United Nations in Islamabad, which aims to highlight Pakistan’s 40-year hosting of Afghan refugees and bring Pakistan’s efforts to Afghan peace.
