Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team defeated Lahore Qalandars by 4 wickets in the first match of Pakistan tour.
In the match played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, MCC won the toss and invited the Lahore Qalandars to bat first. Lahore Qalandars’ openers Salman Butt and Fakhar Zaman scored 42 runs for the first wicket partnership and Salman Butt scored 28 runs.
Thanks to the responsible batting of Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar, the Lahore Qalandars scored 135 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman 45 and Sohail Akhtar scored 40, while Roy Lough from MCC took two wickets.
In chase of a 136-run target, MCC’s start was disappointing and both openers Will Rhodes and Michael returned to Pavilion on the overall score of just 13 runs. Thanks to the lucrative batting of captain Kumar Sangakkara, Ravi Bopara, and Samit Patel, MCC achieved the target losing six wickets on the third bowl of the last over.
Ravi Bopara scored 41, Samit Patel 31 and Sangakkara scored 25. Qalandars’ Mohammad Faizan took two wickets, Usman Shinwari, Maaz Khan, Dilbar Hussain, and Farzan Raja got one wicket each.
Ravi Bopara was declared as the Man of the Match.
