Babar Iftikhar Posted As New DG ISPR, Asif Ghafoor Transferred As GOC Okara

The Pakistan Army has appointed Major General Asif Ghafoor as GOC Okara and Major General Babar Iftikhar as Director General ISPR.

Pakistan Army Department of Public Relations has confirmed the transfer of Major General Asif Ghafoor and Major General Babar Iftikhar has been appointed as the spokesman of Pakistan Army.

In a statement issued from the official account of ISPR, the spokesman said in his last message, especially to the media, that I do not have words to respond to the love and support of the Pakistani people.

Asif Ghafoor tweeted on his personal account on social media, “Thank you for your love and support, continue your work for the stability of Pakistan while remaining strong.”

According to the ISPR, Major General Babar Iftikhar graduated from the Command and Staff College Quetta. He also graduated from National Defense University Islamabad. Major General Babar Iftikhar also graduated from the Royal Command and Staff College Jordan.

According to Pak Army Department of Public Relations, Major General Babar Iftikhar has extensive experience in command, staff and instruction. He served as a major in the Armor Brigade. He served as a brigade staff in an infantry division in North Waziristan.

According to the ISPR, Major General Babar was also the Chief of Staff at the Iftar Corps Headquarters. In Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Major General Babar commanded the Armored Brigade and Infantry Brigade.

Major General Babar Iftikhar was a faculty member of Pakistan Military Academy and NDU Islamabad, before becoming DGISPR, Major General Babar Iftikhar was commanding the Armored Division.

It may be recalled that Major General Asif Ghafoor was appointed DG ISPR on December 26, 2016, replacing Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa.
