The 46 lawyers arrested in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), were arrested on charges of vandalism and arson by the special anti-terrorism court.
The lawyers were presented before admin Judge Abdul Qayyum in the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court where the government lawyer requested physical remand of the accused, but the court rejected the request and sent the lawyers to jail on judicial remand.
The detained lawyer was presented to the court on the basis of 2 FIRs registered at Shadman police station and after receiving the remand, the police escorted the detained lawyers from jail.
A total of two FIRs have been registered on a total of 250 lawyers, of which most lawyers have not been arrested so far.
In addition, the eight lawyers arrested in the PIC attack case filed bail, leaving the identities of 30 lawyers to be re-presented in court within six days.
The arrested lawyers filed bail through senior counsel Maqsood Buttar, lawyer Chaudhry Ghulam Murtaza.
Taib Rasool, Ali Raza, Omar Ghafoor, Waqas Ali, Fahad Sultan, Mohammad Shahbaz, Mohammad Islam and Shahriar bail applications have been filed.
It may be recalled that yesterday, a group of lawyers had attacked the PIC and tortured the hospital staff and patients. Three people, including a woman, died due to lack of timely medical help during the riot.
On November 24, 2019, a lawyer named Azim Sandhu went to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology for the treatment of his mother, during which treatment lawyers accused the doctors of negligence and there was a clash between doctors and lawyers.
After the incident, doctors strike the hospital the next day and were granted a sit-in by the Grand Health Alliance on Jail Road, while lawyers also protested against the doctors and, on civil secretariat, entered the residence outside the office of the Chief Secretary.
Two PIC employees were arrested by the police last day, on which doctors once again striked while police was accused of not acting on the situation created by lawyers, but today the lawyers protested in front of the hospital. And then they opened the doors, after which the lawyers attacked the hospital.
