Ministries of Religious Affairs have disclosed interest from banks on deposits of ?Hajj pilgrims during interim questions in the National Assembly.
Minister of Religious Affairs said in a written reply to the interim questions in the National Assembly, that on the amount deposited by Hajj pilgrims, an interest of Rs. 21 crore and over the last five years, the interest (sood) taken was Rs. 1 billion.
The House was told that refunds are returned to unsuccessful applicants after the draw.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs last year, 3 lakh 74 thousand 857 Pakistanis applied for Hajj and more than Rs 106 billion 41 crore was collected with the requests.
Ministries of Religious Affairs say that interest money is spent on pilgrims vaccines, training, medicine and media campaigns.
