A notification has been issued to appoint Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa as Chairman China Pakistan Economic Transit Authority (CPEC). Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of Asim Saleem Bajwa to be the Chairman of CPEC Authority.
According to the notification, General Asim Bajwa has been posted for 4 years and the CPEC Authority will work under the Ministry of Planning and Development. It is to be noted that on October 8, 2019, President Arif Alvi signed the CPEC Authority Ordinance. The CPEC Authority will be applicable all over Pakistan. The Authority will consist of 10 members. The Prime Minister will be the Executive Director and the members will be appointed by him.
A Grade 20 Government Officer will be the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority who will be posted on the Deputation. Now all activities related to CPEC will be performed under the same authority. No legal action can be taken against the authority or its officials. The Authority will be responsible for coordination, monitoring and scrutiny of CPEC matters.
All Decisions will be on a majority basis. Authority meeting will be on a quarterly basis. No one benefiting from CPEC projects is part of the Authority. A CPEC Business Council will be set up to achieve the objectives of the Authority. The Authority shall make its own budget for each financial year. The 3-member Budget Committee shall approve all investments made by the Authority.
