The resignation of the law minister has come after the Supreme Court suspended the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s extension of employment notification.
Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed confirmed the resignation of Farogh Naseem at a press conference after the cabinet emergency meeting, saying that former federal law minister will appear before Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in the Supreme Court tomorrow.
He further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the resignation of law minister Farogh Naseem after which he will appear before the Attorney General in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Shahzad Akbar, Assistant Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Imran Khan, said that Farogh Naseem had resigned voluntarily as he could not contest the case as a federal minister.
He further said that after the completion of the case, the promoters could again join the Cabinet with the approval of the Prime Minister.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court of Pakistan today suspended the government notification for extension of the tenure of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, which was issued on August 19, 2019 and accordingly General Qamar Javed Bajwa was given a three-year extension.
The Supreme Court has said that the Prime Minister does not have the authority to extend the term of Army Chief. It is the privilege of the President.
Then came the news that during the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan was angry on the law minister for not completing all the provisions regarding extension case of Army Chief.
