A contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Imran Khan has been submitted to the Islamabad High Court which will be heard today.
A petition filed by former Inspector General of Police (IG) Saleemullah Khan in the Islamabad High Court has stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan in contempt of court November 18 condemned the court and tried to make the judiciary controversial.
The petition took the stand that Imran Khan ridiculed and mocked the Chief Justice, so recording and transcript of Imran Khan’s speech was being submitted.
The petition states that the allegation of contempt of court is clear from the text of his speech, therefore the court has requested that Imran Khan be sentenced under contempt of court law.
Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Athar Mannullah will hear the petition today.
It should be remembered that on November 18, Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the inaugural ceremony of Hazara Motorway, saying that the judiciary of the domestic system is very effective here that there is a law for the powerful and secondly for the weak, the judiciary should restore its confidence in the people.
Prime Minister Imran Khan requested Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and future Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed to liberate the country by giving justice, correct the perception about the court as they have been making powerful phone calls here.
He said that the government is ready to get the help it needs but in this country the judiciary has to restore the confidence of the people that there is a law for all.
The Prime Minister had further stated that in the past, a judge was sent with a brief case of notes to relieve a Chief Justice, and decisions were written on the phone to impose sentences to political opponents.
