Maulana Asad Mehmood, son of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has accepted the challenge of contesting the elections against Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur.
Remember that Ali Amin Gandapur defeated Maulana Fazlur Rehman by NA-38 Dera Ismail Khan in the last general election by a wide margin of 34,779 votes. Ali Amin Gundapur had said in a statement that if the JUI-F chief calls the election fake, accept the challenge of contesting the re-election.
At the National Assembly meeting today, warmth of the war was witnessed between the government and the opposition members regarding Azadi march. During this time, Maulana Asad Mehmood and Federal Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also had a jarring and bitter word.
Maulana Asad challenged Ali Amin Gandapur and said, “I resign, you too – do not withdraw now – announce the resignation and fight tomorrow’s elections.” In response to this, Ali Amin Gandapur said that he is still following his statement and that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will end the sit-in, he will fight the election by putting a camera in each polling station.
