According to the Pakistan Army Department of Public Relations (ISPR), spokesman for the army, Major General Asif Ghafoor, has said that sit-in is a political activity and the Army has no role in it. The work we are engaged in does not allow us to get involved in political activism. The military is not involved in any activity as an institution.
DG ISPR said that whenever I speak for institutions, I do not speak for myself, whatever statement I give as the spokesperson of the institution. the Pak army supported the government during the 2014 sit-in. The army has no role in the elections, the army has no role in the appointment of the Chief Election Commission and the caretaker government. Army doesn’t have the wish to play any role in elections.
Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the Pak army has been involved in Kashmir’s 70-year war and security activities for 20 years and has been making sacrifices. It does not pay attention to other tasks. The government and the army have never compromised on the Kashmir issue.
DG ISPR further said that Sikh pilgrims coming from India will be confined to Kartarpur. Kartarpur is a one-way route for Sikh pilgrims from India. There will be no compromise on national security or independence in Kartarpur of Sikh pilgrims. Entry into Pakistan will be under the law.
