Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mamallapuram, a historical place in India that has been selected as a venue for meetings by Indian government which is nearly 50 km away from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Chinese President is on a two-day visit to India and will discuss a string of issues with the Prime Minister. Before meeting President Xi, PM Modi has said that he hopes ties between India and China further improve after their meeting.
President Xi Jinping arrived in Mahabalipuram where he has toured three memorials – Arjuna’s Penance, Panch Rathas and Shore temple. After cultural performances at Shore temple, he will attend the dinner hosted by PM Modi where President Xi will be served local Tamil cuisine. The cultural performances have been displayed by India’s well-known cultural group Kalakshetra . There were many events planned together with the Chinese president .
According to Indian media, the duration of meeting on Friday between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi will be of six hours. The one-on-one meeting between the two leaders will take place tomorrow and will be for almost 40 minutes. Both sides are expected to issue press statements after concluding the meeting.
There are many meetings and events that are coordinated together of both the leaders in a short two day visit of Chinese President to have much understanding about the Indian stance on the regional issues. India despite having differences with China seems desperate in rebuilding it’s relationship with China
The informal meet comes in the wake of intensified conflicts between India and Pakistan because of violence in Kashmir.
India has said that Kashmir is integral part of India despite China’s support to Pakistan.
