The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned the brother in law of Prime Minister Imran Khan following his misleading comments regarding Pakistan Tehreek E Insaf leader Azam Swati. The decision was taken after Hafeezullah Niazi couldn’t prove his claims against Azam Swati.
Hafeezullah Niazi is an analyst and currently appears on Geo News in their program Report Card. Azam Swati had complained to the PEMRA against Hafeezullah Niazi for leveling allegations against him. The PEMRA then served notices to Geo News and Hafeezullah Niazi and sought answers regarding his allegations against Azam Swati, which thy failed to answer.

After months of failure to give a satisfactory answer, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) upon the recommendation of Council of Complaints banned him for month from appearing on any TV channel during this period.
PEMRA also directed Geo News to tender apology regarding the misleading content being run on their TV channel. If the TV channel fails to comply with PEMRA’s order, they will have to pay one million rupees.
Hafeezullah Niazi on the other hand has decided to challenge the ban he has been served with.
