Former US Navy Commander in Kabul Admiral Bill McRaven has expressed his fear that Afghan Taliban may take over entire country within 6 months of US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.
He has said that Negotiating with the Taliban is like sitting down with ISIS, the Navy SEAL who oversaw the mission that brought down Osama bin Laden said , just weeks after President Donald Trump planned to bringing Taliban leaders to the US for talks.
“I never thought negotiations with the Taliban were the way to go,” retired Adm. Bill McRaven said at the New America Special Operations Forces Policy Forum Wednesday, adding, “I’ve said on occasion negotiating with the Taliban is like negotiating with ISIS.”
“And maybe that’s not a good comparison,” he said. “But I do believe that if we negotiate some sort of settlement with the Taliban, and that settlement involves the withdrawal of all US troops from Afghanistan , that, you know, it won’t be six months or a year before all of the blood and treasure we have put into Afghanistan will have been reversed because the Taliban will come back in and do what the Taliban do link .”
Multiple international news media also reported in late August and early September that the Taliban and US negotiators had reached a temporary peace agreement after nine rounds of peace talks in Qatar but it appeared to be as dead.
