A ten-year-old, who was bitten by a stray dog, died of rabies in Larkana on Tuesday.
A video showing 13-year-old Mir Hassan lying in the lap of her mother outside the Larkana commissioner’s office is doing round on social media.
Her mother said her son couldn’t get the anti-rabies vaccine.
Initially, according to the woman, her son was taken to a hospital in Shikarpur where he couldn’t get the vaccine. Then, she brought him to Larkana’s Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Hospital but to no avail, resulting in the death of the boy.
Earlier in May this year, a child bitten by a ‘mad dog’ had died due to non-availability of vaccination for rabies.
A Rabies Encephalitis is a dog-borne viral illness caused mostly by the biting of stray dogs, and if ARV is not administered to the affected person along with immunoglobulin, the patient suffers a miserable death due to hydrophobia and other complications of the disease.
