Farhan Saeed slams Indian musician Salim Merchant for Plagiarism

Saeed took to Twitter and wrote, “Someone just sent me Salim Merchant’s song Haareya, which is a total copy of my song Roiyaan. I wonder how they have the audacity to call themselves artists when they steal someone’s work.”

hen Salim Merchant tweeted about two million-plus views on his single, Haareya on YouTube, little did he realise that it would turn into an ugly spat over plagiarism and copyright issues. Farhan Saeed, a Pakistani singer and actor, quickly pointed out that Salim’s Haariya was a total copy’ of one of his songs, Roiyaan.Salim replied as.

Salim initially kept calm and responded by calling it a mere coincidence.’ Farhan I just heard your song. It’s a mere coincidence that the chorus of Haareya is like your song. To be honest I’ve never heard it before. It happens many a times when notes have a natural progression from each other. @Sulaiman & I have a track record of never plagiarising Salim tweeted.\

But Farhan wasn’t going to let it go that easy. He built a strong case for himself by pointing out another coincidence’ when he replied, @salim_merchant if you say so! Another co incidence is we have the same lyricist! Anyway good luck !

The official video of Farhan Saeed’s Roiyaan was released on June 7, 2014 on YouTube. It has been co-composed by Farhan and Jaidev, while the lyrics are by Kumar. Interestingly, Slaim’s Haareya, a Gaana original that was released on YouTube on September 11, 2019, also credits Kumar as the lyricist.
