The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) issued on Tuesday a show cause notice to Geo TV for airing inappropriate content, including ‘suicide scenes’ in its Ramazan transmission programme.

According to the Pemra notification, Geo Entertainment anchor Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain in his June 13 programme showed scenes “of a girl committing suicide”.

The body called for an explanation from the television channel by June 21, and questioned “why it should not ban the programme [Inaam Ghar].

The host provoked people to do strange activities and show anger in Punjabi language, said the Pemra statement, adding airing such content was in clear violation of rules set by the body on June 1.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, some serving officers of the Pakistan Army complained against Liaquat’s promotional advertisement in which he was shown as a soldier.

The officers expressed their sadness for using Pakistani flag and army’s uniform for commercial incentives.
