Paris Massacre

Paris Massacre on Friday makes tears shed from our eyes and the news has tragically touched our hearts.

This world has virtually turned into a battlefield where innocent people are killed. All this really shows the barbarity we as human beings have shown for our fellow human beings. Humanity seems to have started suffering from signs and symptoms of pre-civilised, mercilessly shattered ethico-moral societal infrastructure.

The world today, a global village, is in dire need of setting high standards of peace, cooperation, fraternity and mutual tolerability.

Confronted with the ravages wrought by modern warfare, we must be bold enough to invest more energy in levers to build lasting peace, namely, respect for human rights, human dignity and democratic values. To counter discourses of hatred that seek to set cultures against each other, we must guarantee universal access to quality education to enable one to withstand calls to violence. To counter the destruction of cultural diversity and the persecution of the weak, we must protect heritage as a force for mutual understanding. We must relentlessly combat racism, discrimination, extremism and the manipulation of cultural and religious identities.

Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.
