Sea salt or bay salt, sometimes also called solar salt is produced from the evaporation of seawater. Layers of the sea salt are deposited on the rocks of sea shore by the waves of water. Like mineral salt, production of sea salt has been dated to prehistoric times. It is used in cooking and cosmetics. Some gourmet chefs say, they prefer it over table salt for its coarse, crunchy texture and stronger flavor and it tastes better than table salt. 1) Sodium and chloride are the most abundant ions in sea salt, representing about 33 and 50.9 percent of total minerals, respectively. A quarter-teaspoon of sea salt contains 460 milligrams of sodium and 601.25 milligrams of chloride approximately. They are both essential substances that our body needs for normal function and nutrient absorption. Chloride specifically helps with muscle and nerve function. Sodium also acts in muscle function and helps regulate our blood volume and pressure.

Each mineral needs one or more other minerals to function properly. For instance, a proper calcium-phosphorus balance is necessary to the body in that an imbalance reduces resistance to disease, increases fatigue, weakens intellectual faculties and leads to premature ageing. Magnesium can only be used if calcium and phosphorus are in a proper balance. Overabundance or deficiency of one mineral can result in a deficiency of another. The salt is taken prior to each and every dose of water and it is better to dissolve salt on the tongue. Taking salt and water in this manner is exactly according to our body physiology and law of nature, as we always flush the utensils before use!

Taking water before meals washes and cleans our entire gastrointestinal tract and water after 2 hours eases the stomach to expel the digested food towards the intestines. And salt makes the water isotonic with our body fluids. Oral hydration triggers the vagal tone by gastric distention whereas hydration and volume expansion offer novel methods to treat a wide range of clinical conditions through pharmacological or electrical modulation of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal baroreceptors.

1) Very little amount of water should be taken during meals as excess of water will dilute the gastric enzymes and impair the normal digestive process.

3) One ounce of water equals to 29 ml approximately.
4) One teaspoonful of salt equals to 5 grams.
