Money is a commodity. You lend it to somebody for their use, they should pay you back with interest or profit, same thing just different name. You rent a car you pay for a car, you rent a house you pay for renting the house, you take someone's money you payback with interest. Rest is all hypocrisy. Of course there could be laws for not charging exorbitant rate of interest, rest is open market.
The very low rate of interest in Europe and USA is not because they realised charging interest is bad, it's open market demand and supply. Because of economic down turn there was very low demand of borrowing, so they bring the price down or in this case the rate of interest. Its just demand and supply.
If an old widow has some money left to her by her deceased husband and she leaves this money in a fixed deposit in a good bank which is as safe as you can get and she earns interest to survive, how could this be haram. You do not expect her to invest in business and probably loose everything. By what logic her earning is haram!!
So Mr. Luqman, as you keep on saying you do not know economics, then please do not take up a subject you have no knowledge in.

I don't know much about Islamic banking but it would be better if we would've had a proper Islamic scholar who has knowledge of Islamic banking (such as Mufti Taqi Usmani) in the program. Having guests with no Islamic banking experience will not clear any concept.

I completly agree with your coment. I was watching this programme in the morning and felt sorry for the guest and host. I don't like Luqman but will give credit for doing this programme. Riba is the biggest weapon used against man kind to enslave them. The whole progamme finshed but i could not understand what were they trying to acheive. i am sure they can not define what is Money

Paper currency is haram we need to go back to gold dinar becuase paper money does not have any value of its own. it was intially issued against gold and people could claim their gold against the paper money they had but it was stoped in £1930.

As per litereal definition of Riba (increase) explained by Mr. Ayub Khan and fitting in the translation of the Ayat 276 of Surah Al Baqarah
The translation is
