Shami Sahib never let any opportunity go without calling 77 elections as rigged elections. Bhutto was very popular in those days and he did not need to rig elections as a party policy. PNA could not bring election irregularity except from three constituencies.
Shami was Zia's man and got paid to write books against Bhutto. He speaks against Bhutto to justify his association with Zia.
Wali Khan himself justified his support to postpone general elections because he believed Bhutto would have come back with thumping majority, if elections were held as promised by Zia. Zia later told BBC that the elections were postponed because he did not expect positive results.
This is incorrect that Muslims of North America follow Saudi moon sighting.
Vast majority follow an agreed upon pre-calculated calendar for Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr since last 15 years. This calendar is a combination of astronomical facts, USA plus Canada (Hawaii inclusive) moon sighting data and a criteria developed by professor Ilyas of Malaysia.
Minority of Arab community follow Saudi or their corresponding Arab country, which is sometime one day ahead of the majority. The other minority such as Tablighi Jamat follow a strict local moon sighting (anywhere in continental USA), which is usually one day after the majority. The majority-calendar and the actual moon sightings have been very accurate since last 15 years.
The Saudi Arab mostly follows a Saudi adaptation of international astronomical calendar. Only difference is that they announce the first day of a lunar month after the sunset.
It is a scientific fact that if people in the east sight the moon on an evening, the people west of that point on the same latitude must also sight the moon. So it is impossible that Saudi have seen the moon but American Muslim did not. But this has happened many times.
People in North America follow Saudi calendar for Eid ul Dhah.
