I am a doctor working abroad and I can well understand that these young men are doing a just protest against state terrorism. I am sure that they wouldn't have gone to such an extent had they not been tortured by the state police this brutally. I was shocked to see them being treated like regular criminals when they were being dragged with collars.
These illiterate politicians who themselves go abroad for health check ups on public money are just using this issue to regain their lost popularity before elections. Since they have never been to teaching institutes they have no respect for educated class of society who work with honesty and pay more taxes then them. It is utterly disgusting and disheartening how common public has been mislead.
I left this country 12 years ago because I was also the victim of lack of any structure whatsoever for young doctors and so did many many of my friends who are now working in UK/USA and Australia. This is a big loss for country as they have lost intelligent professionals who are now serving elsewhere as they were left with no choice. I have worked in different parts of the world and every country has a structure for doctors. They are paid according to their experience and seniority and also get promoted automatically. They have fixed 40 working hours a week but in Pakistan there are no limits they work 100 hours or more. In USA/UK and Australia if they work extra hours its their own choice and they are paid extra for that.
I can assure you that if they keep torturing these doctors or throw them out of their jobs the current medical students and new coming doctors will definitely lose hope in this country and there will be more brain drain, as my generation of doctors have left the country they will also leave the country and will be employed immediately by other countries where they are in high demand. It will be a tragic loss for Pakistan and its people, so please stop lying to people who are illiterate and can't understand the depth of it, sit and talk to these young professionals, they are like your own children and not political people or criminals.
I am Senior Planning Engineer in Saudi Aramco. But i am shocked to see your comments if you are a senior doctor. You only see the attitude of the police but why you unable to see the attitude of your respectful young doctors. If you see the attitude of these doctors in hospitals,then reality will be open in front of you.that your educated doctors have how much mannered. A lot of people in Pakistan are dying but your respectable doctors are only seeing their interests. When anybody will die from their home then they will know what is the difference between life and money. I dont know which universities teach them,but these honourable doctors only learn how to make money,but dont know the moral values and many more…….

Thousands of doctors have left Pakistan because of lack of facilities and money. Eight out of 10 new doctors want to leave the country and pursue greener pastures because of the behaviour of government towards the health sector. Something needs to be done and it has to be done fast because young doctors cannot be coerced or tamed by using power tactics. The only people that are actually suffering in this fight are the poor patients who cannot afford private health care and have no option but to depend on government hospitals for treatment. An early resolution of this mess will benefit those poor patients and they should be the priority of both the government and the young doctors.
It is true that mostly doctors are not happy with their profession, that is why majority of them switch to civil service later on…those who couldn't leave for one reason or the other or can't also go abroad or find jobs elsewhere are now

to give lessons to the govt. as well as to the poor GENERAL PUBLIC of Pakistan from whose taxes these doctors were trained at a marginal fee in the publically funded medical colleges!!!
A civil servant who passes the CSS exam gets promoted to the next pay scale in a maximum period of 10 years, while doctors do not have this opportunity. There are doctors who have served for more than 18 years and still remain in the same pay scale. Despite the order by Supreme Court of Pakistan in February 2012, no concrete steps have been taken to formulate a service structure.

doctors are 100 % wrong this time. I think Govt must must must appoint new doctors who are looking for job, and waiting for a single chance to be given to practice as doctor. And send these so called doctors to home.
Doctors have more than double salaries than people on same grades in other departments with many other facilities. Moreover now this is routine of Doctors to go on strike after every 3 months. If govt accept there demands they will go on strike after next 3 months again with new demands, as they are doing in past.
Its now clear, PMLN govt is exposed. One person cannot hold 18 ministries, shabaz sharif in jahil leader who should understand if he spend one day in each ministry , then its takes 18 days to go back to first ministry, Health ministry, education are so important ministries govt cannot afford that kind of irresponsibility
I m surprized pmln cannot find 18 honest, dedicate and talented ministers? if they cannot run one province how they will run pakistan? If they cannot manage doctors the most educated proffessionals how they will deal other departments.
This doctor issue is totally due to punjab's govt failure.
In Pakistan, whoever get authority, he/she misuse that authority. Army misuse its power and break constitution of Pakistan again and again. Politicians have the authority to rule but they misuse this authority by looting the deceiving voters. Doctors have the authority to take care of patients, they are misusing it by striking. Doctors are Graduates are not the member of a labor union. They must fulfill their moral duties. I don't know any other coutry in the word, where doctors went on strike. This is totally rediculus

It appears that Khadam Aala Shahbaz Sharif is not looking for a compromise, he does not care if poor people are dying , he wants to punish Doctors who dare to stand-up to him.
Sharif's and family have a personal Hospital in Rai-Wind where Doctors will be proud to look after them and most of all they can go to London or Paris any time they wants for minor health problem.

My dad was a grade 17 officer in wapda and his monthly salary in 1998 was Rs 16500 including all benefits. ( appx $ 260@ $ = 58 Rs ) now the average salary of a junior doctor is Rs 60'000( appx $ 660 @ $1 = 90 Rs.) on each doctor Pakistan government spends about 2.5 million rupees. They treat the patients like animals, they recommend expensive medicines for their personal benefits, these doctors refer the patients to expensive labs, they sexually abuse the nurses ( with a few exceptions only) they do untaxed private practices with very high fees.
Even a layman on the road tries to save the life of someone if he finds his life in danger but our so called highest educated class named doctors are killing the people. Using the abusive language and giving the nation the gift of 7 dead bodies in return of all the benefits. They got 5 billion Rs package in their last strike each doctor getting an increase ment of Rs 17000 appx. They are still not happy. Will their quench for more & more be come to an end?
If they study for a long time they get their jobs straight away. On contrary the scientists and engineers had to struggle a lot to find a job placement and in reward these so called maseehas are playing with our life. Get your facts straight if u dont knw wut ur talking abt then its better to shut up and go abt ur bussiness … Junoir doctor in pak is only getton 24000 and dont even think of arguing with me. U ppl think u knw but if fact all u ppl knw shit. The doctors have only closed opds and none emergemcy cases . All emergencys are open. Do u even knw wut an opd is Out Door Patient , ppl in non critial conditions, pp, who come for medicine prescription or general check. No patient has died due to the strike … U ppl think that if there was no atrike that there wud b no deaths in punjab , its time u ppl grow up. U cant say anything to ur corrupt politicians coz u dont have th spine all u can do is say to doctors who though even on strike r attending patients. Doctors study their whole life , first mbbs then post gradutae and it never stops and for wut crappy pay and long gruelin hrs . Does ur dad work on sundays does he work 15hrs a day somedays 24hrs , doc have to work ward week u knw wut that is i bet u dont its when the docs have to stay in the hospital for a week. Mr Obaid it seems that you are a doctor as well. If nobody has died of doctors strike then why the people are crying in the first part of this program and why are they cursing the doctors? I understand very well what Opd, icu and od means in doctors teminogy. I used to my business near Mayo Hospital Lahore and I have closely seen the doctors. If you guys are not promoted then where from the asisstant professors , professors and principals come? Do they are appointed from heaven? Obviously not they get promotions with the passage of time .
If you study whole life you do not do it with a welfare object with every extra degree your private fees goes to skies side by side getting increase in your wages as well. Look at the way you are talking ? You have used the words like shut up and don't even think to argue with me. I can use the same language but then their wont left any difference between a doctor and a gentleman. Hope this will be satisfactory for you.

I have just compared the salary of my dad with the salary of a doctor from 1998 – 2012. Unfortunately my dad was a victim of doctors negligence as well. He died in 2000 in Jinnah Hospital Lahore. One night a patient next to my dads bed was crying and there was only one doctor for the whole ward and two nurses. And I found that doctor after half an hour from that nurse's room. That shows how much responsible they are. I just compared the wages in dollars not in Rs to make you understand what is the difference. I am not here to defend wapda's mismanagement. I just gave you an example. And for your kind information my dad started his job when he was 21 and he became a grade 17 officer after serving the department for 30 years. You doctors want to become the professors and MS overnight. In every department there are juniors and seniors. It's always a herarachi. If you guys do not get promoted then how your seniors became the registrars , deans , professor or asisstant professors and MSs? I have seen a lot under 50 doctors on the higher ranks but all the the employees of wapda do not go to grade 17 some start as JC ( junior clerk) and they retire from the same position. Every body has got his own skills so theres no weight in your arguments that you guys do not get promotions. I have been to UAE , Saudia and the UK along with other European countries but unfortunately I have never seen so the doctors unprofessional behaviour as I have seen in Pakistan. Our poor nation bears Rs 25 lac to help a medical student to become and doctor and when they become doctors they pull out the needles of patient to see them dying mercilessly. I will say again that ALLAH's azab on those doctors who are responsible for the death of 10 patients not on all the doctors but only on the strikers.

@imrankhan : First of all you need to learn some common sense before talking about Doctors . You are comparing your dad's ( 17 grade ) Salary in 1998 with a junior doctor ( who are also 17 grade ) in 2012 . That tells the level of intelligence you have . Why dont you tell how much is your dad's Salary now in 2012 . Also tell me if your Dad wakes up at 3:00 am at night like doctors who get up with his beeper and without washing face rush to hospitals . Does your dad remains in 17 grade for 20 years ? Despite the fact that WAPDA kept the whole nation in darkness and brought disaster in the form of depriving all those people of their livings who depend on electricity eg tailors, Auto-Shops, businesses , electricians, and all the industries , all the WAPDA officers get regular promotions.
if the "demands" of the docttors are legitimate then these doctors should be made to sign an oath that they will never enter politics in any way shape or form…….doctors like Awan ..Sattar…and many many more have left being doctors in medicinal practice and taken the path of either breaucratic adminstration or political positions…their title of "doctor" must be revoked and they must be made to undertake the financial burden of at least one student of medicine..

I feel shame for this Doctor, who is claimed to be educated and civilized whereas he continues to call CM as Zalim-e-Ala. I do not blame him because as whole we are forgetting our values and ethics.
When people who have studied in Oxford & Cambridge do not respect their elders & rivals then how can we expect such a thing from people who have studied in local government colleges. This is a era of money….now everything is money for which one can sold his soul, integrity or even motherland. The more you abuse, the more you will be liked by the masses…..it is really a TRAGEDY.
May ALLAH give us true sense to get back our values and ethics, which were used to be our traditions and we were proud of it.
The Doctors might be wrong for not attending the emergency patients but basically it the matter of bad governance. Mr Salman Kh is a politician and lying accordingly.
Govt is waisting millions of Rs for the protocol of so called khadim-e-aala and ministers, doing corruption of millions of Rs etc. but they are not spending few million in public interest for the doctors who deserve much more against what they are getting now.
This govt is not capable of good governance and IK has offered his help to the Punjab govt and Doctors to resolve the issue so govt should accept it in public interest.

I am from middle class family and i have seen trend that if somebody is in serious condition we prefer to go to public hospital whereas previously we were prefering private hospital, we have to admit that Punjab govt has certenly done good things in helth sector as compair to remaining pakistan. Since ppl are more atracted to govt hospitals the private clinics are not that much flurshing. And its fact if public sector standard will increase nobody will go to private hospital. although i dont like PLMLN but i am with punjab govt.

- Do doctors prescribe cheaper and more effective medicines? No. They actually prescribe medicines of the companies who keep them happy instead of the patients.
- Are doctors honest in referring the patients to the commercial laboratories? No. They refer tests and the labs where they have commercial interests.
- Do doctors spend their duty honestly and diligently? No. They lure patients to their private dens to extort money.
- Do doctors use hospital equipment and other material and medicines honestly? No. They mostly misappropriate it and favor their own contacts.
- Do all doctors the same? No. A few of them (but a very few) are honest and dutiful.
- Are doctors paid the highest compared to other govt employees in same grade? Yes. They are paid more than anybody else.
- Should doctors be allowed to continue strike????????
Do doctors save people's lives? Yes
Do doctors train hard for many many years on very low wages to educate themselves? Yes
Are doctors a blessing to humanity? Yes
Does Pakistan need doctors? Yes
Should we commend those doctors who work in the public sector instead of going abroad or in the private sector? Yes
Should doctors have a merit based system of promotion and income? Yes
Obviously many doctors are crying to go abroad
But once you will be out, you will realize how much respect people pay to the doctors back home, and how doctors are treated abroad especially in middle eastern countries (like a personal servant!).
And by the way salaries are also not so great, unless you get a real good chance.
Most of the doctors are hired through contractors (like a manpower supplier)
You can't even think of private practice.

Yeh Parha Likha Jaahil Doctor lagta he. Is ki language dekho, kya is ke jahil hone ka saboot nahin? Zalim-e-Aala, bevaqoofi, or ainda hartaal se situation or kharaab ho gee, meaning blackmail, because people will die so they will get their unjust demands.
Jab Medical men jaate haen to Insaani Khidmat ka Jazba, or jab Job mil jaati he to yeh Doctor nahin rehte Qasai ban jaate haen, Private business or private feeses.

I just wish That this time Government don't accept even a single demand of doctors and kick them out. It will help the doctor community to make some reasonable decisions.
Which could be:
a) Go for private clinics / Hospitals and earn atleast 5 – 6 times from their current salaries.
b) The more they work the more they earn.
c) The more patients improve the more name they get
d) People / patients will call you "Sir" "Janab" "Doctor Sahib" etc just for having a dose of steroids, anti allergics and/or a drip full of sugar / salt / multivitamins. . . . rather than working with no security, prescribing low potency and in-effective hospital/government medicine, and earn or called with bad names.
f) If want any post graduation then simply study lesser but more logical and manage lesser patients but with effective medicine and working machinery and in good environment … I mean go to any foreign country. also paid a lot well … why to go for FCPS / MCPS / DCH / DGO etc there are a lot better options which will make you much better doctor and human being.
g) Patient rotio during their workings hours will be a lot less. I mean I single doctor who currently in ICU if manages 10 – 15 patients (esp in paediatrics) will have to see a lot less patients. more over similar ratio is in emegency where a CMO or a doctor in OPD sees 150 – 200 patientsin his single shift duty (8 hrs morning).
OOps I forgot to mention….
Without trying to know what service structure is !!! we are labelled as "killer" by this nation.
Goverenment forgot to mention that there is a limit of patient that a doctor is allowed to see during his duty hours. Just for example in Sheikh Zaid hospital in OPD a doctor is not allowed to see more than 35 patients …. I have already mention the number of patients seen by Other Government Hospitals
This nation only deserves steroids / anti-allergics / mutivitamins.
